Some things in life you just can’t seem to wrap your head around and for me, it was that my little brother and sister ate Mantoo (dumplings) with SOY SAUCE rather than lentil sauce and sour cream… so weird, I know! When I got married I learned, much to my dismay, that my Indian-Punjabi husband also preferred his with soy sauce and thats how this sauce came about. I was prepping Mantoo for myself the TRADITIONAL way and felt slightly guilty of simple giving him soy sauce on the side with his so I came up with a SPICY, TANGY sauce that I could sautée his dumplings in instead.

PREP TIME: 5 minutes l COOK TIME: 3 minutes l TOTAL TIME: 8 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon canola oil

  • 2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce

  • 1 teaspoon Sambal, you can also use Sriracha

  • 1 small clove of garlic, finely minced

  • 1/4 of ginger, finely minced

  • 1/2 a lemon, freshly squeezed

Directions

Serving size: this is the amount of sauce for 7-8 dumplings, which is one serving

  1. Heat the oil in a saucepan and add in the garlic, ginger.

  2. Once they are fragrant, add the soy sauce, sambal and lemon juice.

  3. Add in the dumplings, give them a quick toss and serve!

Garnish with diagonally cut scallions if you wish!
