Rose has been one of my favorite scents, flavors and flowers since I can remember; there is something about the sweet fragrance that brightens my mood.

I’m almost 100% sure my love for rose comes from the fact that most of my childhood, I drank rose milk instead of chocolate milk like most kids did. I know this sounds crazy but Rooh Afza is a rose syrup that is very popular amongst South asian families; its poured over ice creams, added to cake icing and even stirred into milk (like I use to drink). The floral sweet tones of the syrup, paired with the tang of lime and freshness of mint in this recipe create a perfectly balance cocktail for a warm day.

PREP TIME: 5 minutes l COOK TIME: 0 minutes l TOTAL TIME: 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. Rooh Afza, this syrup is readily available in most south asian grocery stores

    • if you can’t find this syrup, you can pair 1 teaspoon rose water with 1 tablespoon strawberry syrup as an alternate

  • 3 oz. tequila of your choice

  • 1/2 lime (you need 1 oz. of lime juice for the cocktail)

  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • 4 mint leaves, plus a few extra for garnish

Blended

  • 1 1/2 cup of crushed ice

    • this very important because it will help create the right texture when you’re blending

Over Ice

  • 1 cup of crushed ice

  • 3-4 ice cubes

Directions

Makes: 1 serving

  1. In your shaker, add in all of the ice and a pinch of salt and set aside.

  2. Prep your glass by running the piece of lime around the entire edge.

  3. Mix together the remaining kosher salt and sugar in a plate and dip in the glass to allow the rim to be coated in the mix.

  • You can set the glass into the freezer while you prep the cocktail to keep the drink cold longer.

Blended

  1. In the base of a high powered blender, add in the crushed ice, 1 oz of lime juice, Rooh Afza, 4 mint leaves and tequila.

  2. . Blend the mix together for about 20 seconds (no more than 30 seconds) until you have a slushie like consistency. The key is not to overblend the mix because the heat from the blender will start to melt the ice.

  3. Pour the mix into your prepped glass and garnish with some mint leaves.
